Recipe: Chicken and white radish soup

May 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

First tried this dish at Yaz place. Super yum. So I went home and tried and its still super yum. Here’s the recipe.

Ingredients:
6 chicken wings
1 white radish
1 can of button mushrooms
1 medium size onion
2 tablespoon of yellow beans
Serves: 4-5

Cooking:
Soak yellow beans in advance for about 1 hour (till the skin is removed or easily removed). Soak longer if needed.

Boil water in pot (about 2/5 filled if you are using a medium size pot). Pour in the yellow beans and continue to boil. Meanwhile, peel radish and cut them into big chunks of circular shapes. Pour in the raddish. Peel and slice onion into half. Peel them layer by layer and throw into the soup. Soup should be boiling at all times. After 15 minutes, pour in the chicken. Continue to boil for 20 minutes. Pour in the mushrooms. Taste soup. Add salt if neccessary (i don’t). The soup is ready to serve. Enjoy

May 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Eversince I moved in, I truly enjoyed cooking. So I thought of sharing the recipes online…

Minced Pork with Potato is one of my mum’s specialty…Recipe is from her.

Ingredients:
100g Minced Pork
3 medium sized potatoes
1 1/2 tablespoon light soya sauce
1 1/2 tablespoon dark soya sauce
3/4 tablespoon oyster sauce
1/2 tablespoon tapioca starch/flour
1 teaspoon sugar
one small cup of water
1 garlic – diced
2 tablespoon of oil
Serves: 4

Cooking:

Marinate minced pork with 3/4 tablespoon of light soya sauce, 3/4 tablespoon of dark soya sauce and 1/2 tablespoon tapioca starch/flour. Mix well and leave to marinate for half an hour. Peel and dice potatoes while marinating.

Heat up pan, add oil and stir fry with garlic till fragrant. Pour in the minced pork and stir fry till meat is half cooked. Add in the potatoes, stir fry briefly. Add the remaining light soya sauce, dark sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and water. Stir fry and cover pan with lid and simmer for 10 minutes. Make sure the potatoes are soft if not simmer longer. It is now ready to serve.

Thou shall never let anger gets into my head…Ever again… Keep cool *whistling*

Tue I went to The Cathay to get 4 tix for What happens in Vegas. An auntie cut my Q and stood in front of me. I bet the guy serving that line saw it (FYI, he was the manager and his name is Eugene) but he still serve her. So the guy behind me told the auntie that she is cutting Q and the auntie said “No, there was no one standing behind me when I was Q-ing?” WHAT? I know I am slim and all but hey I was there with a bunch of people standing behind me!!!! Then she continued ”There is no one standing behind me unless my eye got problem” DUH! YES! Your eyes really got problem (of cos I din say that) All these time, the manager just stood and say NOTHING. Nothing at all. So after he served her, he walked away and asked another staff to serve me. WTH! I just feel that he got no guts lo. Anyway, I unhappily bought the tickets and left.

Last night when I wanna use my UOB card to pay for dinner I realised that it was not there. My heart dropped, literally. I went home to look into my other bag, sms JF and see if I have left it in his car, came in to office to check and it is still no where to be found. I logged on to internet banking and see if anyone has gone on shopping spree with my card (thankfully, no) and I realised that my last transaction was with The Cathay (phew!). So i walked over and yes, my card is with them. I guess I was just so pissed off that day and stormed off only with my movie tickets.

After this whole incident, I concluded that I should not let anger get into my head. I am normally not the forget my card kind but I guess I kinda totally lost it. Anger, no good…Keep cool…Keep cool…and breathe…Inhale…Xhale…

P.S. I saw the same manager, Eugene, again just as I was about to leave.

Birds of the same feather flock together

May 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

I believe some of you are aware how annoyed I am with one of JF’s auntie. Then I met his uncle (aka that same auntie’s husband).

JF went to pick them for his friend’s wedding because it turned out the friend is his cousin’s cousin (father side while JF is the mother side). Sounds a little bit complicated. You just need to know that they are distant relatives (aka some what related). Back to the ride to the wedding…

The minute the uncle got into the car, he started striking random conversations like may be JF should introduce some girls to his son, the car’s horsepower is better than his son’s blah… Then he asked which floor we staying (he is referring to the new house). When JF said 6th, he was like why so low when you can choose higher floors, higher floors are better blah blah blah… I was so tempted to say because I don’t like higher floors but I kept my mouth shut. JF replied saying because we are used to lower floors but the uncle just went on and on about the value and benefits of higher floors (watever cum roll eyes).

Suddenly out from no where the auntie asked me what’s my name? You know, we have been together for 6 years plus and I have went to countless family gatherings and she never asked my name or perhaps she did asked my FMIL but she probably forgetten. Anyway, I paused for a moment and thinking should I say my chinese name or english name… So I decided my eng name cos its easier to remember. The uncle said what? again? and started saying “you know when your parents give you your chinese name, it has meaning to it one, you should be using your chinese name blah blah blah” He even asked if JF has a eng name and even ask his wife if any of his children are using any eng name. I was like “WHAT!!!” This is so rude of him lo. I used my eng name because of convenience and that doesn’t mean that I do not respect the name my parents gave me PLUS my parents also never make noise lo. Who he think he is!!!!!! At this point, I couldn’t hold it any longer and said “My eng name is very similar to my chinese name. People always hear wrongly so I used this eng name instead.” I can’t remember if he stopped blabbering or he went on and on but I just basically shut down and zoned out.

During the wedding lunch, I turned to JF and told him, I finally understand the meaning of birds of the same feather flock together and his auntie and uncle are so blacklisted. And he is so cute he replied saying that is why their marriage can last a lifetime (which I kinda agree). In any case I told him they are so blacklisted because like wife like husband, like husband like wife.

a shopaholic!

My goodnes, I have been shopping or thinking about shopping every other day. It all started from the once a week shopping day with my room mate. So far we have been out on 2 super quick shopping dates and 1 actual, skipped dinner shopped till late trip. Last weekend, after JF’s friends lunch wedding. We walked from Clark Quay to Funan to Raffles city and I literally shopped all my way there (luckily it was dark/late by the time we finished dinner, if not will be shop all the way there and back).

I bought book stands and sticks from this stationary super store in Funan, my wedding shoes from Robinsons, a ring from one of the push cart, I wanted to buy more when JF said enough for the day (which I do agree). What’s wrong with me?! Anyway, my other previous precious buys include:

1. a cropped jacket from dotti

2. 3 pair of shoes (not including my wedding shoes – since when did i become a shoe person? hmm…)

3. swatch watch

4. another cropped jacket from this fashion

Meeting ZF later to buy corset for my AD. Hope I won’t end up buying other stuff…Wuhahahaha..Think I would need to have another cold turkey therapy soon…

Same hand same leg girl

May 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It was in my first cardio latino class i realised that I am a same hand same leg girl. It all started from the basic move - mambo left. Just as I mambo-ed to the left we also have to raise our hands and I realised that I raised a different hand as the rest of my classmates. And we mambo-ed to the right, again I realised that I raised a different hand as the rest. This continued throughout the one hour class. I was puzzled and even though I tried following them I was still doing it wrong. WHY?!

Class finished and we went to bath. I did a slow-mo in the shower room and it suddenly occur to me that I was raising my right hand as I mambo-ed left with my right leg forward. I should have raised my left hand. DUH! I never knew that I was the same hand same leg girl (sad). I shall practice till I get it right before my next class… No more same hand same leg

Vesak Weekend 08

May 20, 2008 · 2 Comments

Sat – JF was late again. Suppose to meet at 8am but he only showed up at 9am (typical). By the time we started our Southern Ridge exploration was 9.30am. Canopy walk was our first station – it was nice and cool (shady), Hortpark was too hot for me but I loved the garden home concepts (recommend to spend sometime at Hort Centre), Floral walk was ultra short and not very floral, Alexandra Arch was short (think will look beautiful at night – the bridge will be lit with different colors), Forest walk was loong and high (not for pple who are afraid of heights), Hilltop walk was just not very scenic and our final stop Henderson Waves was very windy and beaufiful.

By the time we finished Henderson waves it was 12.30pm. Went home to bath and makan and we dash off to Tiong Bahru Plaza for ear candling. It is not painful nor hot nor uncomfortable. In fact, it was so comfortable that I’d almost fell alseep (though I think it is partly due to my walk earlier).  What they do was to light one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal. Ear candling was believed to be a natural way of cleaning ear wax and toxins. My next attempt on candling will be belly button candling…woo-hoo! It is believed that by getting regular belly button candling, one can improve digestive and colon health, reduce water retention, achieve healthier looking skin and improve overall health. It involves deep abdominal message followed by applying candle at the belly button to boost circulation and detox.

After a relaxing ear candling, we caught Made in Honor. Under normal circumstances, I would have enjoyed the movie but I had this splitting headache (due to either lack of zz or water) I couldn’t enjoy/concentrate. Went home after the movie and I just fell asleep. By the time I woke up was around 7ish and JF had cooked dinner – Green Apple Porridge. HUH?! What’s that? Well, he added green apples into the porridge and boy, it was SOUR…yiks! Other than that, it was pretty ok but by 10ish we were both starving and went for supper at a near by Indian store for some prata, teh tarik and maggie goreng!

Sun – Woke up at 9am, went to the market to buy all the ingredients for lunch. HJ, ML, XP and XPBF came over my place for MJ. I cooked chicken with radish soup (yum!), minced pork with potato (yum!) and fried green beans (not so yum :P ) It was probably the last MJ session we had with HJ for this year (HJ leaving for KR next Monday)…Man, think we are losing one very enthu khaki…HJ, I will miss you…

Mon – Woke up around 9am and went to Sheng Siong to buy ingredients for cookies baking. Baked 4 batches of cookies from 9.30am to 2pm. Started with the follow the recipe – very sweet cookies, semi sweet cookies, almost no sugar cookies and the semi sweet chocolate chip coco crunch cookies. My personal fav is the semi sweet cookies. Then we zz till almost 6pm, went to my house to drop off the cookies (very sweet ones) and JF house for dinner (they had the almost no sugar). Played catan with JF sis and husband and went back home to catch healing hands, LOST and did some reading (work).

I have to say that my weekend was very fulfilling and fun! I wished that my all weekends are longer…hehe

Sex & the City taught me…

May 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

…that friendship can last forever only if you are non judgemental of another.

There were so many occasions that the girls did or should not have done certain things but the rest still stood by them (without being judgemental and accepting them as who they are). I really loved the friendship they had (even though I know it is kinda fictional) and am learning to be non judgemental.

My financial consultant friend

May 5, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Received a sms from a friend (whom I did not stay in contact for quite a long time) few weeks ago to meet up. However, I was not available. This friend called again today and asked to meet up for dinner this Thursday. He told me that he is a financial consultant and his “mentor” will also come along.  Even though I will not buy anything from him, I will still go because I know he needs to meet a few clients with his mentor before he can go on to sell on his own.

I’d always find it very awkward to approach friends to sell insurance. I feel that I am using my friends. Don’t get me wrong. I am a believer in insurance and I do believe that my friends can benefit from it. But I will never approach friends whom I have not contacted for a long time just to sell them insurance. For friends whom I am always in contact, I will just courteously mention that I have switched industry and if they are in need they can approach me. I am saying as though I am in this line which I am not, probably never will. But I would really appreciate friends or people in this line to keep in touch with your other friends on a regular basis and not when you want to sell them some thing. This goes to the same for MLM.
